About Nikon FM2
The Nikon FM2 is an SLR (Single Lens Reflex), fully mechanical, manual focus, 35mm film camera. This camera is known as one of Nikon’s greatest ever made. The product was released in 1982 and discontinued in 2001. In 1984, Nikon upgraded the FM2 and launched the FM2N model with a fast flash X-sync of 1/250th second. Around 1993, Nikon introduced the FM2/T model, with the T standing for titanium. In 1994, Nikon produced only 300 rare FM2/T “Year of the Dog” cameras, identifiable by the dog image next to the model. The Nikon MD-12 motor drive, an automatic film advance up to 3.2 frames per second, is a great accessory and addition to this camera, along with the 50mm F/1.4 F mount lens. The camera has an incredibly fast shutter speed of 1/4000s. The famous photograph “The Afghan Girl” by Steve McCurry was captured with the Nikon FM2 in 1984. There are four models of the Nikon FM2: the regular FM2, FM2N (available in black and chrome), FM2/T, and FM2/T “Year of the Dog.” The one I have here is the FM2N, identifiable by the 250 flash-synch in red on the shutter speed dial and the “N" indicator at the back of the camera. The current value of the Nikon FM2 ranges between $400 and $5,000, depending on the model, and the price of the collectible FM2/T “Year of the Dog” will continue to increase.
